UDSM Fees and Funding

The University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) offers several funding opportunities for undergraduate students, mainly in the form of merit-based scholarships. These scholarships are aimed at Tanzanian students and are designed to cover a range of expenses including tuition fees, meals, accommodation, and other specific academic requirements.

For the academic year 2023/2024, UDSM announced 52 undergraduate scholarships for Tanzanian students. These scholarships are merit-based, meaning they are awarded based on academic achievement rather than financial need. Eligibility criteria include being a Tanzanian citizen, being under 25 years old at the time of application, and having excellent academic records from secondary education. Additionally, applicants must be admitted to the University of Dar es Salaam and should have scored at least 12 points in three subjects at the Advanced Level of Secondary Education or its equivalent. The scholarship is renewable for subsequent years provided the recipient maintains a minimum GPA of 3.8.

The process for applying to these scholarships requires meeting the eligibility criteria, including age and academic performance. Applicants are encouraged to apply for bursaries through the Higher Education Students’ Loans Board (HESLB) as well, although those awarded the UDSM scholarship will be required to relinquish HESLB support. Required documents for the application include a copy of the birth certificate or national ID and copies of secondary education certificates. The application window typically opens from August 30 to October 16.
