About the University of Dar es Salaam Museum

The University of Dar es Salaam Museum is placed on the sprawling hills on Western side of Dar es Salaam city. The museum trail consists of two beautiful museum locations and a botanical garden. The two locations are the University of Dar es Salaam Museum located at the Heritage Building and the Zoology Museum located at the Science Complex while the botanical garden is a tranquil extension of the University Museum's Natural History.

The two main buildings are found on the University of Dar es Salaam Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Mlimani campus. Both the Heritage building and the Science Complex building were erected in 2013.

At the University Museum you can see some of University of Dar es Salaam’s display objects from our cultural and natural historic collection. In the exhibitions we also take you on a journey and explain how knowledge is produced at the University. You will meet both science and research from the university’s own researchers as well as the research from all over the University of Dar es Salaam.

The University Museum is a multi-disciplinary research unit comprising natural and cultural history. The University Museum is responsible for collection, documentation, preservation, research and dissemination within its museum disciplines. The University Museums collections are an invaluable and international infrastructure for research. The disciplines are archeology, art and cultural history, botany, geology and zoology.
