M.A Information Studies
Objective of the Programme
The objective of the programme is to provide students with advanced knowledge in the Library and Information Science profession to enable them to work in Libraries and Information Units as librarians/information scientists.
Qualifications for Admission
Library and Information Science (LIS) is a multidisciplinary course. A graduate from any degree programme who meets the qualifications prescribed in the UDSM Postgraduate Prospectus is eligible for admission.
Duration of the Programme
The M.A. programme in Information Studies is offered to full-time students and lasts for 18 months: nine months for coursework and nine months for the dissertation.
Structure of the Programme
The programme consists of two semesters of classroom instruction. Students take a total of 27 units, 23 of which are compulsory, and 4 are optional. The remaining nine months are dedicated to research work leading to the writing of a dissertation.
Course Evaluation
All courses in this programme shall be evaluated as follows:
- Course Work: 50%
- University Examinations: 50%
Award
Successful candidates shall be awarded a Master of Arts degree in Information Studies.
