THE CENTRE FOR KISWAHILI LITERATURE AND AFRICAN ORAL TRADITIONS
Responsibilities of the Centre
- To deals with, coordinate and supervise all research activities on various fields of Written Kiswahili Literature and Oral Traditions, and publishing articles and books used in teaching Kiswahili and African written literature and oral traditions courses;
- To conduct researches on literary works of various previous and current writers,
- To collect and preserve data, documents and important information on literature.
Projects of the Centre
To implement its responsibilities, the centre has various projects which enable it to accomplish its roles. These projects are:
1. Shaaban Robert’s Letter Project2. Mnyampala Project
3. Akilimali Project and the project of attending events such as Mwaka Kogwa and others.
Staff Members of the Centre
The Centre has eight (8) staff members who carry out research on various issues about Kiswahili Literature and African Oral Traditions. These are experts in oral and written literature, literature and health, children and youth literature, literature and disability, literature and writing as well as literature and publishing.
