BACHELOR OF ARTS WITH EDUCATION (CHINESE AND ENGLISH)

Department of Foreign Languages and Linguistics offers a full time three (3) years degree programme at the College of Humanities, University of Dar es Salaam. This is a new programme for the 2018/2019 academic year.

A candidate shall be deemed eligible for the consideration for admission to a bachelor of arts with education (Chinese and English) degree programme if he/she has one of the following qualifications:

Duration: Three (3) years

Programme Status: Full Time

Mode of Delivery: Mixed modes of delivery (i.e. Lectures, Practical, Seminars and Teaching Practice )

Location of the delivery: University of Dar es Salaam (including all the campuses and constituent colleges)

Minimum Entrance Requirements

A. Certificates of Secondary Education Examination (C.S.E.E) or equivalent

with passes in FIVE approved subjects THREE of  which must be at credit level obtained prior to sitting for the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (A.C.S.E.E) or equivalent;

B. (i) For all applicants except graduates of 2014 and 2015:

Two Principal passes in art or science subjects in the A.C.S.E.E or equivalent with total points from three subjects not below 5 based on the following grade to point conversion scale: A = 5; B = 4; C = 3; D = 2; E = 1; S = 0.5 and F = 0. The minimum principal in this case is an "E" grade.

(ii) For Graduates of 2014 and 2015

Two passes of at least 'D' grade in relevant art or science subjects in the A.C.S.E.E or equivalent with total points from three subjects not below 5 based on the following grade to point conversion scale: A = 5; B+ = 4; B = 3; C = 2; D = 1; E = 0.5; F = 0 point. The minimum principal in this case is a 'C' grade. [Note: Principal level passes in Divinity/Islamic knowledge are not counted]

OR

(i) A Diploma in Chinese language of the University of Dar es Salaam or equivalent diploma from recognized institutions and approved by the UDSM senate. The candidates must have passed with an average of B or higher grade.

(ii) Those students with HSK (Chinese Proficiency Test, an international standardized Chinese test) Level III and above together with A level certificate holders and minimum of two principal passes.
