HISTORY

The Confucius Institute at UDSM (CI-UDSM) was established in 2013 under the Agreement between UDSM and the Confucius Institute Headquarters at Hanban and Zhejiang Normal University.

Under the Agreement between the two institutions, UDSM is mandated to run Chinese studies on campus and elsewhere in the country. Subsequently, CI-UDSM has been running various degree and non-degree programmes in Dar es Salaam and has been extending these services to other cities and institutions in the country.

MAIN OBJECTIVES

The main objectives of CI-UDSM are to meet Tanzania’s growing need in understanding the Chinese language, culture, technology and skills and to increase mutual understanding among the people of China and Tanzania.

CI-UDSM also acts as a platform for socio-political and economic exchanges and collaborations between China and Tanzania.

In addition, CI-UDSM is meant to stimulate research on various aspects of Sino-Tanzania relations, including history, education, science, and technology.

Besides, CI-UDSM acts as a link between the University’s students and companies in Tanzania.
