Professor William-Andey Lazaro Anangisye

Position: Vice Chancellor of the University of Dar es Salaam since December 2017.

Academic Background: Professor of Education in the School of Education at the University of Dar es Salaam. Holds a PhD in Education from the Moray House School of Education, University of Edinburgh, Master of Arts in Education and Bachelor of Arts with Education (Hons) both from the University of Dar es Salaam.

Upon completion of his PhD in 2006, he returned to the University of Dar es Salaam as a Lecturer and rose through the ranks to Associate Professor in 2012. He teaches educational foundational courses, including Professionalism and Ethics in Education, International and Comparative Education, Philosophy of Education, Sociology of Education, and History of Education.

  • Principal, Dar es Salaam University College of Education (March 2015 - November 2017).
  • Deputy Principal (Academic), Mkwawa University College of Education (May 2012 - March 2015).
  • Associate Dean (Academic), University of Dar es Salaam School of Education (2009 - 2012).
  • Acting Head of the Department of Educational Foundations, Management and Lifelong Learning (2007 - 2009).

Board Memberships

Prof. Anangisye has served on various boards in different capacities, including chairperson of the Higher Education Students’ Loans Board (HESLB), National Examination Council of Tanzania (NECTA), and more. He is a member of boards and councils in several prestigious institutions.

Publications and Research

Professor Anangisye is an outstanding researcher who has researched and published widely in education, mostly on professionalism and ethics in education. He is the author of more than 30 published academic articles and has contributed to numerous books and journals.
