Apply participatory leadership, JK urges UDSM new leaders
The Chancellor of the University of Dar es Salaam Dr. Jakaya Kikwete has urged new leaders of the University of Dar es Salaam to deploy participatory method in executing their roles as a means to achieve intended institutional goals.
Dr Kikwete, the former President of the United Republic of Tanzania emphasised this as he spoke to the new appointed leaders of different units of the University of Dar es Salaam today Friday, 18th March, 2022.
"Engage others as you execute your responsibilities; that is the way to make them cooperate with you, and it will definitely make them happy and be assured that you recognise their abilities",. Dr. Kikwete said.
The Chancellor emphasised that, for instutitions like the University of Dar es Salaam to succeed, there must be good relationship among its members of staff.
Dr. Kikwete also challenged them (new leaders) to always reflect on the legacy they would plan to leave as they leave their current positions.
"What would you wish people to remember you for after you leave this post?", Dr. Kikwete questioned.
Also, Dr Kikwete insisted that the University's more efforts to make it perform better academically and research-wise should be geared towards implementing its vision 2061, focusing on innovation that solves society's challenges.
The UDSM Chancellor, Dr. Kikwete, was speaking to the new UDSM leaders that include Principals, Deans, Directors, Coordinators and Heads of Departments who were appointed last December, 2021 for the 2021/2024 tenure.
The event was attended, among others, with the UDSM Council Chairperson, Judge (rtd) Damian Lubuva, who insisted on the role of the new UDSM leaders to safeguard its high standards and reputation.
